I think a chair with a high back would be nice in the room by the fireplace, like a wingback chair. Something a little bit taller than what you have. You could balance it out by adding a second chair on the other side of the room. I'm guessing you position the couch in front of the t.v. for easy viewing and as a focal point. Looking forward to seeing the final results.

Take care,

ChristinaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8117833933153792508.post-19059345910343210782011-01-09T02:38:41.647-08:002011-01-09T02:38:41.647-08:00Hi there! everything is just so lovely! It is such an investment, we have to be sure. I am in the process of doing my family room and I have left it pretty bare for while now so that I can settle on something. I know it will be neutral so I can play around with accessories, that is the most fun for me. Good luck!

XO,
JaneBlondie's Journalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12988377413260331618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8117833933153792508.post-72091756709819018762011-01-08T09:02:44.421-08:002011-01-08T09:02:44.421-08:00Go to Better Homes & Gardens website. I can tell you what worked for me this last time I redid our living/dining area. I painted the walls an icy blue and then added in lots of black elements mixed in with cream and white and then I added a lot of silver. I then put in my pops of color with pillows and accessories. I did two matching loveseats in charcoal grey. Ok, I'm babbling now, you can see the finished room on my blog....DUH!
I know that whatever you end up with will be fabuclicious Kerryann's style.

xo
LeAnnAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8117833933153792508.post-38853732688156357812011-01-08T06:31:53.510-08:002011-01-08T06:31:53.510-08:00You sound like me, an appreciation and love for al...You sound like me, an appreciation and love for all styles and want it all! You guys have done a terrific job! Karryann, I think there is a compromise here with both styles! Since the couch is going to be one of your biggest focal points in the room and will dictate the style for the room, maybe think about a neutral couch like a light taupe velvet/chennille that would allow you to incorporate all styles and decor. Maybe make all your accent furniture pieces in the light taupe family as well and then go to town with your pillows, art and accents, which you can easily switch out depending on your style mood. Think about using varying taupe fabrics some with texture and tone on tone patterns as well. Then you can have it all while keeping your space looking larger. As far as what to do with lighting, maybe think about a lighting from Restoration Hardware in black. Or at least look at Restoration for inspiration and then see if you can find something similar for less. I think Restoration has a great balance of all styles and can look vintage and modern in the same. Hope that helps!! Great job girl! I think by keeping big pieces as neutrall as possible, you never commit to one style but can incorporate whatever you want.
Cheers!
CyndyAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11789400485910680109noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8117833933153792508.post-71776138591549275042011-01-08T06:23:39.706-08:002011-01-08T06:23:39.706-08:00Hi, I love this post I am very much the same as yo...Hi, I love this post I am very much the same as you..I go between styles..I think I chandelier would be great in the room..and don't believe this has to be black like the other one..I can't wait to see what you do with the space..The Splendiferous Lifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07914634119269671361noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8117833933153792508.post-57314654064422533182011-01-08T06:18:37.403-08:002011-01-08T06:18:37.403-08:00Well, I loved the before pictures, so I can't ...Well, I loved the before pictures, so I can't wait to see the after! I am trying to achieve it with just the right mixture because I do believe it can be done. Instead of floral fabrics I use a lot of faux florals in vases and am going with more simple fabrics without any print. The Vintage Farmhousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13201067932252143566noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8117833933153792508.post-47959141134480705192011-01-08T06:10:18.068-08:002011-01-08T06:10:18.068-08:00I think you can definitely mix styles: go for a sh...I think you can definitely mix styles: go for a shabby chic Ballard! ; )

Layla and Kevin Palmer definitely offer some fabulous inspiration (in my opinion). ; )

http://theletteredcottage.net/Caroline @ The Feminist Housewifehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14042647064869326025noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8117833933153792508.post-22309030915063865852011-01-07T22:40:56.458-08:002011-01-07T22:40:56.458-08:00I don't think you have to stick with a black c...I don't think you have to stick with a black chandelier.
