Sneak Peak !

Sneak Peek of our Home Before & during the Process of a Re-Decorating.
Our home is smaller in size with 1800 square feet,  decorated in a more french country style with Bright
Yellow's-Red's-Blues
Floral mixed with Plaid and a Small Gingham.
I made the Curtains, Upholstered the Chair, Covered the Dining Chairs.
My husband put in the far windows by fireplace (which were just mini port hole sized) He Built the Fireplace up,  I Painted the Built In Entertainment Center White from it's original maple color, and we took out Sliding doors to put in French Doors.
BUT
Ready for a Change, wanting to incorporate more of my Loves
French Style Furniture, More Neutral Colors, with an Elegant feel using my Vintage Furniture pieces.

As much as I love Yellow & Red, I'm ready for a calmer more neat and put together look.

This is our Family Room, which is right next to and opens to our Dining and Kitchen area.

I saw a Worn Brown Leather Sofa at (Restoration Hardware for $3500) that i fell in love with (So not happening)
I'm thinking I want to go with a Dark Shade of white for walls,
a worn leather couch with some wood trim or tacking
adding a formal elegant but Vintage French Chair-
and that is where it stops for me
The Problem i have is I love Ballard Designs, the Classic Black with Crisp Clean whites,
But then I LOVE
the Rachel Ashwell style of  mixing the old worn sofa with timeless Vintage  treasures (God knows I have quite the Collection)

I don't want to go buy a Used Worn Leather sofa, to find it looks Odd in space-
I tried the photo bucket thing (could not figure out)
Not so sure which style chair to put against wall by Fireplace or how many chairs to bring in (also have quite the collection of all styles)

Also debating changing out Ceiling fan for chandelier only- we NEVER use the fan, and would love to bring in an elegant touch- but the chandelier over dining table is black, so Do i have to stick with that?
I guess I have to many styles I love- Ballard Designs, Shabby Chic Mixtures of Timeless Vintage Treasures, & a Comfy Family livable space but with a French Elegant Touch..

Any suggestions, ideas or Ref. of where to go get some great inspiration WOULD be so Appreciated as I'm so in Limbo.
Thanks
Karryann

  1. I don't think you have to stick with a black chandelier. I love how the space looks now...all white walls. So pretty. I bet you'll find the perfect pieces for it.

  2. I think you can definitely mix styles: go for a shabby chic Ballard! ; )

Layla and Kevin Palmer definitely offer some fabulous inspiration (in my opinion). ; )

  3. I am the exact same way! Torn between the pictures in the pages of Ballard and the soft Shabby Chic florals! I am trying to achieve it with just the right mixture because I do believe it can be done. Instead of floral fabrics I use a lot of faux florals in vases and am going with more simple fabrics without any print.

  5. Well, I loved the before pictures, so I can't wait to see the after! I see a white chandelier with some wonderful crystal bobbles! I think that would go well with the black chandelier. Can't wait to see the finished product.

  7. You sound like me, an appreciation and love for all styles and want it all! You guys have done a terrific job! Karryann, I think there is a compromise here with both styles! Since the couch is going to be one of your biggest focal points in the room and will dictate the style for the room, maybe think about a neutral couch like a light taupe velvet/chennille that would allow you to incorporate all styles and decor. Maybe make all your accent furniture pieces in the light taupe family as well and then go to town with your pillows, art and accents, which you can easily switch out depending on your style mood. Think about using varying taupe fabrics some with texture and tone on tone patterns as well. Then you can have it all while keeping your space looking larger. As far as what to do with lighting, maybe think about a lighting from Restoration Hardware in black. Or at least look at Restoration for inspiration and then see if you can find something similar for less. I think Restoration has a great balance of all styles and can look vintage and modern in the same. Hope that helps!! Great job girl! I think by keeping big pieces as neutrall as possible, you never commit to one style but can incorporate whatever you want.
    Cheers!

  8. Well here I wanted to go and give you some really good advice but I don't think I have any. I can tell you what worked for me this last time I redid our living/dining area. I painted the walls an icy blue and then added in lots of black elements mixed in with cream and white and then I added a lot of silver. I then put in my pops of color with pillows and accessories. I did two matching loveseats in charcoal grey. Ok, I'm babbling now, you can see the finished room on my blog....DUH!
I know that whatever you end up with will be fabuclicious Kerryann's style.

  10. Go to Better Homes & Gardens website. They have an aamazing decorating section. I have used that quite a bit. Also - I love Ballards. Another great site is Wisteria, Grandinroad and Viva Terra. They have really nice pieces and accessories and will give you some terrific ideas. Good luck!!

p.s. I agree with you to switch out the ceilig gfan...and no you don't have to stick with black. You can mix up metals and colors. That will even be more interesting.

  11. I feel so much the same as you do...torn between styles, wanting to try something different. It is such an investment, we have to be sure. I am in the process of doing my family room and I have left it pretty bare for while now so that I can settle on something. I know it will be neutral so I can play around with accessories, that is the most fun for me. Good luck!

  14. Karryann,

I love the before and after photos. It is always fun to see how changing color can change a room. I think a chair with a high back would be nice in the room by the fireplace, like a wingback chair. Something a little bit taller than what you have. You could balance it out by adding a second chair on the other side of the room. I'm guessing you position the couch in front of the t.v. for easy viewing and as a focal point. Looking forward to seeing the final results.

    Take care,

    Christina

  18. I loved your before pix too, but like you I'm feeling the more calm colors with pops of my most lo wall color throughout my dining room and living room.. tTinking of a warm bisque wall color and satin drapes in my beloved apricot! I love Ballard, shabby, shiny, and classic design.
You'll figure it out... Love the chandelier idea too! Sparkle up that new neutral color pallet!
I'll be back to see what you do!
