A Vintage Rocker- ReUpholster with Toile

Well one down 14 or so to go. Here is my little Vintage Rocker I just re-upholstered (finally) after sitting in my family room for way to long. I choose Black-White Toile because i love it, & it is neutral. I think i actually did pretty good on the box cushion- that has always been my week spot when it comes to upholstery- but it came out pretty good- Now as far at the zipper -didn't even attempt it-especially as while doing the cushion i (sewed my middle left hand finger) YES sewed it- i was pushing the fabric through and the needle caught my finger-and for some reason my foot kept pressing the pedal- SO after that figured i would  leave the zipper attempt out and go with the ties again.
And well you can't tell when cushion is on seat. For the Seat cushion i used the toile and black and white check for bottom side-mixing up the piping . The seat cushion is down filled, so it is so cushy and comfy- One more piece that I'm debating keeping at home.

  12. Wow, Karryann, You did a fabulous job! Ouch, I'm sorry you sewed your finger! That must have been very painful. The cushion looks totally perfect without the zipper. I can understand very well that you're tempted to keep this pretty rocker chair.
    Have a wonderful day!

  17. Love it! Super cute and looks oh so comfy! I'll have to make my to Folsom and show you how to sew a zipper in, it's not as hard (or painful!) as you think. But I do love the trick with the ties, I wouldn't have thought of that!

  24. I once in my younger days, whilst sewing a western shirt either for my husband or my father, I forget which, I sewed through my thumbnail. I thought I would just pass out with pain, and had to back that needle back out of my thumbnail. How I caught that under the needle,I will never know, but I know how bad it hurt when you sewed through your finger. ooouuccchhhhh.But..., I love, love, love your gorgeous chair. You did such a good job.
    Happy VTT..

  28. Very cute makeover -- that rocker looks just perfect for an afternoon snooze!

I noticed on the side of your blog, you asked for ideas to deal with ugly ceiling tile. We had that in the kitchen of our last house -- we took down the tiles, and papered them in a thick paper that looks like tin ceiling tile. Then we painted them in a glossy white -- painted the bars between them in the same white -- and it looked (unless you look really closely) like an old tin ceiling.

We have had real tin ceilings in apartments in NYC, so we knew the look we were going for. It's easy to find that wallpaper and it is much cheaper than the thermoplastic or thin metal pressed tin panels they sell at Home Depot and Lowe's.
    Good luck!

  30. Whew, this is beautiful! I don't know if I could ever get the nerve to try and upholster a chair or anything that requires more than staples!

The toile fabric is so pretty and it just looks great.

Thanks for coming over to my blog. I'm so glad you did because now I'm following you and will be back often.

  33. The chair turned out amazing! I have one that is sort of shaped like that, and I would love to reupholster it, but it looks too hard and scary. I hope your finger is ok. I can't tell you how many times I've done that to myself!

  35. WOW, AMAAZing transformation. Love It, love it, love it. Toile is a favorite of mine and I am definitely a chair addict. I have so many stashed in my garage, basement, storage unit that I've picked up at garage sales, auctions, etc. that I have visions for and may actually get around redoing "someday" LOL. This one turned out beautifully!
